This city is the main seat of the Mariavite bishops. Their most important church was built here in the beginning of 20th century - it is called Temple of Mercy and Charity. The Mariavite Church is an independent Catholic and Christian church that emerged from the Polish Roman Catholic Church at the turn of the 20th century. Initially, it was an internal movement leading to a reform of the Polish clergy, but after a conflict with Polish bishops it became a separate and independent denomination. |
